PROFESSOR OF MEDICINE
Dr. Svenja Albrecht

Dr. Svenja Albrecht was promoted to Professor of Medicine. She is a graduate of UMDNJ/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School followed by internal medicine residency and infectious diseases fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. She joined the Division of Infectious Diseases at UMMC in July 2007 as the Director of the Viral Hepatitis Program. She also holds a Masters in Public Health and CTropMed degrees, both from John Hopkins University. Dr. Albrecht has served the institution as Medical Director of Outpatient Antimicrobial Service (OAS) since 2021 and is involved in Hepatitis C Project Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes (ECHO), which is a multi-state collaboration aimed at providing treatment for those with HCV in rural areas.
ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR
Dr. Maria Bueno Rios

Dr. Maria Bueno Rios was promoted to Associate Professor of Medicine. Dr. Bueno Rios earned her medical degree from the Universidad de San Martin de Porres in 2009. She completed internal medicine residency at the University of Miami, Jackson Memorial Hospital. Dr. Bueno Rios completed training and fellowship in Infectious Disease at the Cleveland Clinic and since then, has been on faculty at UMMC in the Division of Infectious Diseases. She sees patients on the inpatient infectious diseases consult service as well as in the outpatient clinic. She also serves as a tuberculosis consultant for the Mississippi State Health Department, where she manages the care of tuberculosis-infected patients across 14 counties.
Dr. Scott Gibson

Dr. Scott Gibson was promoted to Associate Professor of Medicine. Dr. Gibson earned his medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine and completed internal medicine residency and geriatrics fellowship at UMMC. He sees patients both on the inpatient geriatrics service as well as the outpatient clinic, where he has a robust primary geriatrics practice. Dr. Gibson serves as the Geriatrics Fellowship Program Director and the clerkship director for the Geriatrics elective for the 3rd and 4th year medical students. Due to being considered an expert in Alzheimer’s and other dementias, Dr. Scott Gibson has been an invited speaker on those topics at local and regional seminars and meetings.
Dr. James Hamilton

Dr. James “Jimmy” Hamilton was promoted to Associate Professor of Medicine. Dr. Hamilton earned his medical degree from UMMC. He completed internal medicine residency, chief residency, and cardiology fellowship at UMMC followed by electrophysiology fellowship at the Krannert Institute of Cardiology in Indianapolis. An electrophysiologist, Dr. Hamilton is the Chief of the Electrophysiology Section in the Division of Cardiology. He was the first in Mississippi to insert two different leadless pacemakers as well as training for a new FDA indication for this device for atrial insertion. He is heavily involved in fellowship teaching, specifically ECGs and electrophysiology. He is actively involved in research and has received funding for eight projects in the past few years at UMMC.
Dr. Jasmine Kency

Dr. Jasmine Kency was promoted to Associate Professor of Medicine. Dr. Kency earned her medical degree from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. She completed her internal medicine/pediatrics residency at UMMC and served as a pediatric chief resident. Dual board-certified in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, Dr. Kency practices inpatient and outpatient medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine. She is the Medical Director of the Office of Patient Experience and host of Southern Remedy’s weekly Women’s Health show on Mississippi Public Broadcasting. Dr. Kency has served on Faculty Senate and the School of Medicine Admissions Executive Committee.
Dr. Seema McKenzie

Dr. Seema McKenzie was promoted to Associate Professor. Dr. McKenzie earned her medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine and completed internal medicine and pediatrics residency at UMMC. She is a faculty member in the Division of Hospital Medicine and serves as a Physician Advisor for the Department of Medicine. As one of eight faculty in this role on campus, she is a key leader for the entire organization charged with meeting goals for cost and patient quality. She has served on several education and institutional committees, including the house officer selection committee for both internal medicine and internal medicine/pediatrics programs.
Dr. Jarrett Morgan

Dr. Jarrett Morgan was promoted to Associate Professor. After completing medical school and internal medicine/pediatrics residency at UMMC, he was selected as a pediatrics chief resident, and joined faculty in 2020. Dr. Morgan is triple board-certified in internal medicine, pediatrics and obesity medicine. He is currently an Associate Program Director for the Pediatrics residency program and serves as a core faculty member for the medicine/pediatrics residency program. He is also Course Director for a required course for second-year medical students. Dr. Morgan has received an M3 All-Star Attending Award, Trailblazer Award for Excellence in Medical Education, and was selected as the M3 Student Clinician Ceremony Keynote Speaker.
Dr. Lampros Papadimitriou

Dr. Lampros Papadimitriou was promoted to Associate Professor. He completed medical school, internship, internal medicine residency, and cardiology fellowship training in Greece followed by an Advanced Heart Failure Fellowship at UMMC. He practices inpatient and outpatient heart failure medicine in the Division of Cardiovascular Diseases. Dr. Papadimitriou has given lectures locally, nationally, and internationally on topics ranging from heart failure to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. An experienced researcher and educator, he has published many papers, has served as a reviewer in a dozen journals, and participated in over 40 clinical trials.
Dr. Kevin Sullivan

Dr. Kevin Sullivan was promoted to Associate Professor on the Tenure Track. Dr. Sullivan completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Pittsburgh followed by a PhD in Psychological Sciences from the University of Maine focused on cardiovascular risk factors in relation to Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) in older adults. He completed a T32-funded post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health in the Center for Aging and Population Health, where he also completed an MPH in Epidemiology in 2019. He currently is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Geriatrics and the Assistant Director of the Neuroepidemiology Core at The Memory Impairment and Neurodegenerative Dementia (MIND) Center at UMMC. Dr. Sullivan focuses his research on cognition and aging.
