This month, the Division of Clinical Immunology was created with Dr. Gailen Marshall serving as the inaugural Division Chair. The Division has two Sections – Allergy/Immunology and Rheumatology.

Congratulations to all who matched into the department’s fellowship programs this month! Nine fellowships matched 23 residents who will begin their fellowships in July 2022.
Vikas Majithia, MD, MPH, Professor of Medicine and Division Director of Rheumatology, will be leaving UMMC next month. We appreciate his 20 years of service to UMMC. In light of his leaving, the following appointments have been made in the Department:
– Gailen Marshall to serve as interim Division Director of Rheumatology
– Jimmy Stewart appointed Vice Chair of Faculty Development for the Department of Medicine
– John Spurzem named Chair of the Department of Medicine Promotion and Tenure Committee
2021 Group on women in Medicine and Science (GWIMS) Awards
Congratulations to those in the Department of Medicine who were awarded 2021 Group on Women in Medicine and Science (GWIMS) awards!
Dr. Vikas Majithia has been appointed Vice Chair of Faculty Development for the Department of Medicine. Dr. Majithia completed his medical school at Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma Postgraduate Institute of Medical Science in India, residency training at the St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit, and a fellowship in rheumatology at UMMC. He is board-certified in Rheumatology and Internal Medicine by the ABIM.
