Meet Dr. Swetha Chittioplu, PGY-4 rheumatology fellow, mother, wife, and chef.
First, tell us about you.
I was born and brought up in India and graduated from Sri Venkateswara Medical College. ย After my graduation, I got married to my husband, who works as a hospitalist at UMMC. We have a beautiful daughter, Navika, who was born in 2018. I completed internal medicine residency at North Mississippi Medical Center in June of this year.
When did you know you wanted to pursue rheumatology?
While I was doing my clinical clerkship, I was on rheumatology rotation where my interest started and during residency, it was further strengthened after experiencing a wide variety of rheumatological conditions and working with excellent faculty.
What do you like most about UMMC?
UMMC has a friendly working atmosphere with great support from staff and lovely people. I am thrilled to have this opportunity. ย
What advice would you give to the interns?
Residency, as all of you know, is tough but it will have some of your best life experiences and the knowledge you gain will be useful throughout your career. Last, but not least, be humble throughout your journey.
What could you give a 40 minute presentation on without preparation?
Cooking. I love cooking south Indian food.
What is something you wish you knew more about?
Playing a musical instrument. Learning more about technology in general would be great since itโs always changing and has so many uses.
What are some small things that make your day better?
My day starts with a cup of tea. I love to spend some time with my friends and family.
Tell us something about you that most people donโt know.
I have a strong passion for creating Rangoli (Indian art) designs and have consistently performed well in various Rangoli competitions. I really enjoy the artistic process and take pride in the intricate designs I create.
