As the new calendar year begins, there is lots to share regarding our educational programs. Twenty-seven individuals, including 11 of our current or former medicine and med-peds residents, recently matched with our fellowship programs on December 4th and will begin their subspecialty training in July 2025. In addition, 11 other current residents and fellows matched in 9 other locations around the eastern half of the country for their fellowship training. On March 21st, we will add 26 internal medicine residents, ten preliminary residents, and six medicine-pediatrics residents through the 2025 main residency match to those who will begin their next step in training on July 1st.
January also brings our first application window for two new tracks in our medicine residency. Our hospitalist track, which will be led by our newest residency Associate Program Director Brett Jeter, will be accepting upper-level residents for more focused training in hospital medicine over their last two years of residency. The track will include quality and systems education, hospital committee experience, and additional one-on-one clinical mentoring with hospitalist attendings. Our clinician researcher track, which will be led by Associate Program Director Rahat Noor and Director of Resident Research Licy Yanes Cardozo, is accepting two rising second-year residents for a longitudinal mentored research experience with more in-depth instruction on research methods.
Be on the lookout in the next few weeks for our submission window for our 4th annual Department of Medicine Scholarship Day, which will be Tuesday, April 15th, in the student union and which will feature former chairman, Dr. Javed Butler, as our speaker. All residents and fellows of the department can submit any work that has been accepted to a scientific meeting this academic year or any new work for presentation.
Finally, all of our training programs will be updating their curricula and policies in preparation for the ACGME making a visit to campus this summer. They will be performing a review of the allergy & immunology fellowship program, which is in good standing with Continued Accreditation. This serves as an impetus for all of us ensuring that our processes are in accordance with ACGME standards and guidelines.
