The UMMC Incidental Pulmonary Nodule Program is a specialized medical service designed to evaluate, monitor, and manage patients with incidentally found lung nodules. These incidentally found nodules can represent a wide array of underlying pathology, the most worrisome of which is malignancy and requires specialized and individualized care. It is estimated that up to thirty percent of CT scans performed detect an incidental nodule.
The goal of this program is to deliver timely and coordinated care for individuals with lung nodules by utilizing advanced diagnostic tools and a multidisciplinary team involving pulmonologists, a robust lung cancer screening program, radiologists, and thoracic surgeons. This ensures optimal management of potential lung cancer as well as other pathologic conditions based on evidence-based guidelines with a focus on shared decision making.
The Incidental Pulmonary Nodule team includes Lekha Sunkara Deere, MD, Jennifer Pate, NP, and Kenyadra McCullum, RN, all within the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care in the Department of Medicine.
