The Internal Medicine Scholars Observership (IMSO) is a summer opportunity for University of Mississippi Medical School students between their first and second years of medical school. The program, directed by Dr. Savannah Duckworth, is entering its sixth summer and has proven to be an excellent view into the practice of internal medicine and its specialties. The program began largely as an idea from then-student Blair Wiygul, who was in the inaugural group and now a PGY-3 internal medicine resident. Students spend two weeks rotating in internal medicine clinics and two weeks rotating on the inpatient internal medicine service, which includes some time in the Medical ICU. The month-long observership gives an opportunity for mentoring and exposure to scholarship activities including professional CV creation and formatting clinical case reports. Faculty leaders include Dr. Brett Jeter and Dr. Jessie Harvey. A sister medicine-pediatrics program has started this year, directed by Dr. Jarrett Morgan. Welcome to this year’s students!
