Tell us about yourself. I was born and raised in Tampa, Florida and lived most of my adult life in Palm Beach County, Florida. I met my beautiful wife during college at Florida Atlantic University, and we landed in Mississippi for my internal medicine residency here at UMMC. Here in the Jackson metro, my family has shared some of our most treasured memories; the purchase of our first house together, the birth of our daughters, and my nomination to serve as one of the four chief residents for the IM residency program. Professionally, I enjoy teaching, and learning something new daily. Personally, I love participating in any sport related activities, dancing with my daughters, going on date nights with my wife, and vacationing with my family!
What are you most looking forward to working at UMMC? Medical student and resident education has always been my passion. I look forward to working alongside trainees, colleagues, and mentors in the best academic medical center in the south!

Dipen Khanapara, MD

Residency: Internal Medicine, Montefiore Medical Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx NY
Fellowship: Hematology and Oncology, University of Cincinnati
Division: Hematology and Oncology
Tell us about yourself. I recently completed my Hematology-Oncology fellowship at the University of Cincinnati, where I also served as Chief Fellow. I’ve now joined as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in Hematology. I was born in India. My path in medicine has taken me from earning my medical degree in China to caring for underserved communities during my Internal Medicine residency at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx. I later worked as a Bone Marrow Transplant Hospitalist, focusing on stem cell transplant and CAR-T cell therapy. My clinical and research interests center on blood cancers, particularly multiple myeloma, and on improving access to equitable cancer care. Outside of work, I enjoy cooking, learning new languages, and exploring diverse cultures.
What are you most looking forward to working at UMMC? As a young attending, I’m excited to work with learners at all levels — fellows, residents, and medical students — contributing to their growth while learning alongside them. Personally, I look forward to growing with the outstanding faculty in the Division of Hematology. As a hematologist, I’m passionate about the future of cell therapy—harnessing the immune system as precision medicine to fight blood cancers like myeloma. My family and I are also looking forward to starting our new life in the hospitality state.
