
Dr. Stephanie Elkins, Professor of Medicine, and beloved hematologist, teacher, and colleague, retired from UMMC last month after 39 years of service. Dr. Elkins was a pillar physician in the field of hematology and served as Division Director of Hematology and Oncology for 8 years. Under her leadership, the Hematology and Oncology Division grew substantially in size and patient volume, providing hematologic and oncologic care for more Mississippians. She also served in many other roles during her career, including Fellowship Program Director of Hematology and Oncology as well as Director of the Anticoagulation Clinic and Bone Marrow Transplant. A gifted teacher and clinician, Dr. Elkins was very involved in the educational mission of the Medical Center through direct teaching, curriculum development, and education committees. She leaves behind a legacy of excellence after decades of compassionate care and inspirational leadership. Through her dedication to patients and tireless commitment to teaching, she has profoundly touched the lives of countless individuals.
