Dr. Elizabeth Paine has joined UMMC as a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Digestive Diseases. Dr. Paine earned her medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine and completed internal medicine residency and gastroenterology fellowship at UMMC. After completing training, she practiced gastroenterology for 12 years at the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center prior to beginning her practice in IBD and General GI at UMMC. She brings clinical expertise, educational leadership, and a heart for service to UMMC. At the VA, she held numerous leadership positions, including Deputy Associate and Acting Associate Chief of Staff for Specialty Care, GI Division Chief, and Chair of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee. She was named Staff Physician of the Year at the VA Medical Center in 2016 and received the VA ICARE Excellent Patient Service Award in both 2014 and 2016. Dr. Paine has served as President of the Mississippi Gastroenterology Society and is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology and the American Gastroenterological Association.

Dr. Paine is actively involved in education at all levels and has served as both the Associate Program Director and Program Director for the Digestive Diseases fellowship and is the current Chair of the Internal Medicine Residency Program Clinical Competency Committee. She is also the clinical course director for the GI block in the School of Medicine. She has mentored numerous students and residents throughout the years and has a wide range of publications and presentations. Dr. Paine is dedicated to quality improvement and has served as Chair of the National VA GI Field Advisory Board and member of the VA IBD and Section Chief Sub-Boards.
