We are meeting you for the first time – what would you like for people to know? Actually, you are not meeting me for the first time.  I have been here on staff as recently as 2014 and am returning to UMMC from practice in Mobile, AL, in order to lead the structural heart program focusing on interventional treatment of structural heart disease in my home state.

What are you most looking forward to working at UMMC? Being back home in my home state and working in a collaborative effort to provide state of the art care to our patients from a cardiac standpoint, with a special emphasis on valvular/structural heart disease.

We are meeting you for the first time – what would you like for people to know?  I am married to my best friend, Sara Brewer, who is a newborn hospitalist at UMMC.

What are you most looking forward to working at UMMC? I am most looking forward to splitting my time in the cardiac and medical ICUs as a full-time intensivist.

We are meeting you for the first time – what would you like for people to know? I am originally from Peru. I completed medical school at Universidad San Martin de Porres in Lima, Peru. I have special interest in infections caused by multi-drug resistant organisms, infections in immunocompromised hosts- solid organ and bone marrow transplant patients, antibiotic stewardship and infection control in the ICU, sepsis/ septic shock. My research has focused in air and surfaces contamination with multi-drug resistant Acinetobacter baumannii in the ICU, CMV reactivation in bone marrow transplant recipients, and the effect of daptomycin MICs in the outcomes of patients with VRE BSI treated with daptomycin.

What are you most looking forward to working at UMMC?  I am really excited to start this new chapter in my medical career, doing the things that I enjoy the most- teaching and patient care. I hope to be able to influence the career of medical students, residents and fellows, the way my mentors influenced mine.

We are meeting you for the first time – what would you like for people to know? My husband, William, and I have one child, Mack. We love being outside and have recently spent lots of time in our garden this summer.

What are you most looking forward to working at UMMC? UMMC has been my second home since medical school. I’m so blessed to have trained here and now to work here. I’m very happy to be back.

We are meeting you for the first time – what would you like for people to know? I am an avid movie watcher, Disney World lover, and coffee drinker. I am wife to a pretty hilarious and smart cardiology fellow and mother to the cutest baby girl, Norah.

What are you most looking forward to working at UMMC? I am most excited about working with the trainees, from students to fellows, and having the opportunity to participate in their medical education.

We are meeting you for the first time – what would you like for people to know? This is my 12th year at UMC though first as full faculty.

What are you most looking forward to working at UMMC? Working with the staff, residents, students, nurses and all support staff. The people at UMC are what bring and keep so many of us here.

We are meeting you for the first time – what would you like for people to know? I have traveled quite a bit and hold 3 different citizenships (Bangladesh, Canada, and USA).  I speak basic Spanish. I used to speak French as a kid.  I was president of the Theater Club in High School. And I love draw.

What are you most looking forward to working at UMMC? A chance to expand my skills as a new attending including more involvement in committees and teaching.

We are meeting you for the first time – what would you like for people to know? I’m originally from Peru. I received my medical degree from the Universidad San Martin de Porres, Lima, Peru. I completed my internal medicine residency at the University of Miami/ Jackson Memorial hospital and subsequently I moved to Cleveland for fellowship in Infections Disease at Cleveland Clinic.  My biggest interests in the ID field are non-tuberculous mycobacterial infections and infections in immunocompromised hosts.

What are you most looking forward to working at UMMC? It is exciting to work in an organization that has such good impact on so many lives in Mississippi.  Also I’m looking forward to develop a career in academic medicine.  I love being able to inspire medical students, residents and fellows not only academically but personally.
