On March 21, 2019, the Department of Medicine once again remembered two of our late outstanding pulmonologists, James Griffith (“Grif”) and William “Chappie” Pinkston, at the annual Griffith/Pinkston Memorial Golf Tournament, which had been postponed from November 12, 2018, due to inclement weather. Residents, fellows, faculty, and sponsors of the tournament participated in the event on the makeup date, which appropriately could not have been played in more beautiful weather. The money raised through the event supports our trainee scholarship fund, which provides the sole means for our residents and fellows to gain the essential experience of traveling to present their scholarship. This fund has now sent more than 150 of our department’s trainees to regional, national, and international meetings to represent our department and lay the foundation for their careers. Thank you to all of those who donated and participated, and we hope that many more will consider doing the same when we hold the Griffith/Pinkston Memorial Golf Tournament again later this year on Monday, November 11th.
