Dr. Andrew “Andy” Wilhelm has been named Associate Division Director of the Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine Division.

Dr. Wilhelm completed his medical school at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency and chief residency at UMMC in internal medicine. He completed Pulmonary and Critical Care fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Since his fellowship completion, he has been on faculty here at UMMC. Dr. Wilhelm has served as Director of the Conerly Critical Care Hospital and is currently the Director of the Medical Intensive Care Unit. He is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians and has been named Department of Medicine All-Star Teacher.

As the MICU Director, Dr. Wilhelm was instrumental in UMMC’s response to COVID-19 this past year, including serving on the institution’s COVID response team and organizing the initial cohorted teams to care for COVID patients.
