Dr. Jessica (Jessie) Lavender has been named Director of the Primary Care Track for the internal medicine residency program. Dr. Lavender is an Assistant Professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine and Hypertension. She completed medical school, internal medicine residency, and chief residency at UMMC. As a resident, she was chosen as “Resident of the Year” by the Evers medical student society. After chief residency, she practiced inpatient and outpatient medicine at Baptist Health System in Leake County prior to returning to UMMC as faculty. She is very active in the Mississippi ACP Chapter and serves on the Board of Governor’s Council as well as on the Chapter Meeting Planning Committee. She is currently the Program Chair for the 2021 MS/AL ACP Scientific Meeting. She also serves on UMMC’s Opioid Task Force Committee. As Director of the Primary Care Track, Dr. Lavender, will work closely with program leadership to enhance the primary care experiences for those residents in the Primary Care Track.
