Dr. Licy Yanes Cardozo has been named Director of Resident Research for the Internal Medicine Residency Program.

Dr. Yanes Cardozo is an Associate Professor in both the Departments of Medicine and Molecular and Cell Biology. She completed medical school and residency at the Universidad Nacional de Asunción in Paraguay. She came to UMMC as a post-doctoral fellow and worked in biomedical research for eight years before moving back to clinical medicine. After completing an internal medicine residency and endocrinology fellowship at UMMC, Dr. Yanes Cardozo joined the faculty at UMMC, where she combines clinical practice and research as a physician-scientist.

Dr. Yanes Cardozo has been awarded numerous accolades on campus, including the Department of Medicine Research Fellow Award, multiple Excellence in Research Awards, and the Stanley Chapman Young Investigator Award. She has mentored numerous trainees over the years in research endeavors, including post-doctoral fellows, MD/Ph.D. applicants, students in the Medical Student Research Program (MSRP), residents, and fellows.

In her role, Dr. Yanes Cardozo will work with program leadership to ensure residents understand the principles and conduct of research, expand research opportunities, and facilitate research mentorship for residents. Congratulations Dr. Yanes Cardozo!
