Dr. Kellen Jex, a native Mississippian, shares about his time at UMMC, memorable moments from training, and what he’s up to now.
First tell us about you and your time at UMMC.
I completed medical school, internal medicine residency, and a chief resident year at UMMC. I am married to my high school sweetheart Becky and we have two children Julia Claire (13) and Travis (8).
Where are you now and what are you doing?
We live in our hometown, Natchez, Ms. I completed GI Fellowship at LSU New Orleans after leaving UMMC and then moved home. I joined my father-in-law in his private GI practice for 4 years, and then opened my own solo GI practice from scratch in Natchez 5 months ago!
What do you miss most about UMMC?
The people. Teaching. It was such a wonderful group of people to train with and learn from.
Share a memory or more of your time here at UMMC.
I’m sure this is a tough one for everyone because there are so many. I especially miss the Beer With….gatherings that Michael Boler and I shared (Beer With Boler and Jex) and doing karaoke at Fenian’s and on recruiting trips (I’m looking at you Barr Biglane, Jessie Harvey, and Teresa Crout).
