Dr. Yoshitsugu Obi is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Nephrology. Here, he shares his path to medicine and what he does at UMMC.

What is your professional background?

As a native of Japan, my journey has been nothing short of unique. After completing my post-graduate training in internal medicine and nephrology in Japan, I received a Ph.D. in Medical Sciences and became an active contributor to multiple clinical practice guidelines. Then, I embarked on a new chapter in the US as a research scholar, where I thrived with the support of exceptional colleagues and mentors. Inspired by my success, I resolved to pursue a career as a physician-scientist, completing my Nephrology Fellowship at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center before joining the distinguished faculty of UMMC in 2021.
