Behind the Scenes With Christy Taylor

Let’s go behind the scenes with one of the many who work to make it all happen – Christy Taylor. Christy shares about her role at UMMC. Thank you Christy for all you do!

Tell us about what you do at UMMC.  I am the Division Business Administrator for the Division of Infectious Diseases. I am responsible for managing our daily business and clinical operations, along with direct supervision of our administrative support staff. I manage posting and filling of all positions within the division, along with overseeing orientation, training, evaluations and resolving any problems that may arise. I provide support to our twelve providers and our fellows, assisting them with managing EPIC schedules, updating call schedules and all other business/clinic needs. I also manage our division referral queue, addressing any issues that may arise with referrals being handled in a timely fashion. I manage and maintain our yearly budget as well as handle all reimbursements for the division.  I work closely with our Division Director to establish long and short-term goals that will help the division run smoothly. I also serve as the fellowship program coordinator for the division, assisting the fellowship program director with interviews, milestones and whatever else they may need.

How long have you worked at UMMC?  I just made 15 years with UMMC back in April.

What do you love about your job? I love the people I work with. The staff and providers in our division make it easy to come to work. It’s one thing to love your job but if you don’t have a good team to do that job with, it can become very mundane, very quickly. It’s never boring here. I also love that this position has many layers to it. I’m not doing the same thing day in and out. Each day can bring something new, some more challenging than others, but I appreciate the variety.

What things make your day brighter? Being able to help the staff and faculty always makes my day brighter. My goal is to be a support to them and help them in any way I can.

Tell us something about yourself that many people do not know. Hmmmm…..Let’s see. When I was younger, I played the drums regularly for my church. I thought it was cooler than singing but quickly grew out of it once they started picking faster songs to sing. My legs couldn’t keep up!! I am also a coffee fanatic. From black coffee to lattes, I’m your girl! I secretly want to be a Barista but it won’t pay my bills so I will keep buying coffee to support them. Something else to add is that I never saw myself in healthcare or managment. I wanted a career in economic development. But God had different plans and placed me just where I needed to be.
