Dr. Lyssa Weatherly has been appointed as Assistant Dean for Student Affairs for the School of Medicine. Dr. Weatherly is a Mississippi native and a graduate of Mississippi College. She attended medical school at UMMC, where she also completed her internal medicine residency, chief residency, and geriatrics fellowship. She serves as an associate program director in the internal medicine residency program with particular interest in medical student and resident education and mentorship.  Dr. Weatherly also serves as co-course director for the “M2 Introduction to the Medical Profession” and the “M3 Introduction to Clinical Medicine” courses as well the UMMC chapter advisor for the Gold Humanism Honor Society.

Dr. Weatherly will join the Office of Student Affairs to focus on fostering an environment that promotes academic success and medical student development. The staff coordinates a wide variety of services and activities that impact all medical students and operates essentially as a conduit between the student, faculty, and administration. Initially Dr. Weatherly will focus her activity in the areas of student counseling, advising, wellness initiatives, and the smooth transition from classroom to clinical education. She will continue to be clinically active with the Geriatrics division.
