Dr. Zeb Henson has been appointed UMMC’s Associate Chief of Staff effective June 1, 2021. A Mississippi State University graduate, Dr. Henson received his medical degree and his postgraduate training in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at UMMC, where he also served as Chief Resident in Internal Medicine. He joined the UMMC faculty in 2009 and currently is an Associate Professor of Medicine and the Internal Medicine/Pediatrics Residency Program Director. He also serves as Course Director for Introduction to the Medical Profession 2 and for the M3 Medicine Clerkship.

As a clinician, teacher, and mentor, Dr. Henson is respected, inspirational, well-rounded, and perfectly suited for this role. In addition to board certifications in both internal medicine and pediatrics, he has also received certification in hypertension by the American Society of Hypertension. His accolades related to teaching and mentoring are numerous and include the Normal C. Nelson Order of Teaching Excellence, Clinical Professor of the Year, Pre-clinical Professor of the Year, Regions TEACH prize nominee, AOA Faculty Teacher of the Year, and Evers Society Hall of Fame. He has also served on various institutional committees and task forces, including the Healthcare Compliance Management Committee, Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, Executive Committee, and the Documentation Standards and Architecture Committee, which he serves as Co-Chair.
