The Procedure Service was started in 2019 with 4 Hospital Medicine faculty and 1-2 rotating internal medicine residents. In its first 3 months, over 120 procedures were performed in the hospital. The goals of the service are to provide excellence in patient safety and quality of inpatient procedures, improve patient care by streamlining procedure availability, and decrease unnecessary length of stay from delayed procedures for hospitalized patients.
The service is available from Monday-Friday 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM to any hospitalized patient.
Procedures performed:
- Paracentesis
- Lumbar puncture
- Lumbar puncture with intrathecal methotrexate
- Central venous access
- Temporary hemodialysis catheters
- Arthrocentesis
Thoracentesis should be discussed with the pulmonary consult team; the Procedure Team can be of assistance if needed.
