Residents receive top honors at national ACP abstract competition

Dr. Himmat Brar (left), internal medicine PGY-2 resident and Dr. Jannat Kang (center), internal medicine PGY-1 resident, recently presented their abstract virtually at the national American College of Physicians (ACP) meeting, taking home top honors in the “Best Research Abstract” category. Their research abstract, “Utilization and the cost burden analysis of amylase testing in acute pancreatitis” focused on ordering amylase levels and its inferior sensitivity and specificity as well as high cost of $63 per test. Dr. Pradeep Bathina (right), faculty in Hospital Medicine, served as senior author and mentor of the research project, which served as Dr. Brar and Kang’s Quality Improvement project for this academic year. Dr. David Schaefer, faculty member in Digestive Diseases also serves as a mentor for their ongoing research. Click here to view their abstract. Congratulations!
