Dr. Zeb Henson named Chief Medical Officer. A Professor in the Departments of Medicine and Pediatrics, Dr. Henson has served on the UMMC faculty since 2010. A Mississippi State University graduate, Henson received his medical degree and postgraduate training in internal medicine and pediatrics at UMMC, where he also served as Chief Resident in internal medicine. He has served in multiple leadership roles throughout the institution, including internal medicine/pediatrics residency Program Director, Course Director of M3 Medicine Clerkship, and Course Director of Introduction to the Medical Profession 2. Dr. Henson has served as Chief of Medical Staff for the institution since 2022.
Throughout his career, Dr. Henson has been recognized for his commitment to education, mentorship and clinical excellence. He is a member of the Academy for Excellence in Education and has received numerous teaching honors from the School of Medicine, including Pre-Clinical Professor of the Year, Clinical Professor of the Year, Department of Medicine Teacher of the Year, and induction into the Norman C. Nelson Order of Teaching Excellence.
Dr. Henson continues to practice internal medicine and pediatrics and has a special interest in resistant and adolescent hypertension. He served as principal investigator at UMMC for the Systolic Blood Pressure Intervention Trial, a landmark national study examining blood pressure management.
As Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Henson will provide leadership for initiatives that advance quality, safety, patient experience and value throughout the health system while supporting UMMC’s mission of education, research and patient care. Congratulations Dr. Henson!
