Dr. Neville R. Dossabhoy, Professor of Medicine, and the Nephrology Division Clinical Director and Fellowship Program Director, graduated from the Millsaps Business Advantage Program this month. The certificate course taught by Millsaps College’s MBA program professors gives working professionals a comprehensive exposure to essential business topics.

Congratulations to all who matched into the department’s fellowship programs this month! Thirteen fellowships matched 28 residents who will begin their fellowships in July 2021. Read more for the full listing.

The department’s two residency programs (Internal Medicine and Medicine-Pediatrics) have seen positive results in regards to test scores this year. All residents take an in-training examination each fall and this year’s scores boasted the best collective performance the programs have seen in over a decade. Over 27,000 residents took the exam this year, and each of the PGY classes performed better than the national mean for their respective training levels.

This committee was created in 2018 and is chaired by Dr. Myrna Alexander Nickens, Professor of Medicine and the first female interventional cardiologist in Mississippi. All of us who serve on the committee do so because we believe in our mission and vision of promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in our department, institution, and state. We aim to achieve this with varying methods and will be implementing several initiatives over the coming year.

The Class of 2018 Pulmonary Training Fund endowment was established by Dr. Bobby Tullos with a generous gift of $30,000. It is for the Department of Medicine’s Pulmonary and Critical Care Division, for the purpose of training pulmonary fellows in the area of advanced airway management, ultrasound, bronchoscopy procedures, and other specialized pulmonary medical care. The fund will also support pulmonary fellows who attend courses that are not available at UMMC facilities.

Dr. Scott Gibson is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Geriatrics and serves as the Program Director for the Geriatrics Fellowship. Here, Dr. Gibson shares his love for primary care, our aging population, and UMMC.
