Dr. Neville R. Dossabhoy, Professor of Medicine, has been named Division Director of Nephrology.  Dr. Dossabhoy completed internal medicine residency and nephrology fellowship at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. He served on the faculty at LSU Health School of Medicine and served as Chief of the Nephrology Section at the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center in Shreveport, LA for 12 years. In 2019, Dr. Dossabhoy joined the UMMC faculty as clinical director of the Division of Nephrology; he has also served as the Nephrology fellowship program director and medical director of the division’s two dialysis units.  Dr. Dossabhoy has published over 65 abstracts and papers. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and American Society of Nephrology. He is widely regarded as an excellent teacher and clinician.  He has wide-ranging experience in both investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored research. He has a long track record of leadership roles in the education of students, residents, fellows, and staff. He served as the Director of the CME Activity Program for the Nephrology Section at LSUHS.

Dr. Dossabhoy has promoted excellence in our three main mission areas of patient care, education, and research and he is committed to strengthening these missions in the Division and Department. He follows in the footsteps of Dr. Tariq Shafi, a leader in the Department who served as the Division Director of Nephrology since 2019. Under Dr. Shafi’s tenure, the division grew its tripartite operations.
