Dr. Visnu Garla, Associate Professor in the Division of Endocrinology, co-authored a paper out this month titled “Dapagliflozin in patients with cardiometabolic risk factors hospitalised with COVID-19 (DARE-19): a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase 3 trial” in The Lancet Diabetes and Endocrinology.
UMMC has joined the Cardiometabolic Center Alliance (CMCA) as a Charter Member. Dr. Elizabeth Fryoux, Assistant Professor in the Divisions of General Internal Medicine and Hospital Medicine, will serve as the Lead Physician.
Dr. Teresa Moll is a PGY-V fellow in Endocrinology. A graduate of UMMC School of Medicine and the medicine-pediatrics residency program, Dr. Moll shares about herself, her memories of medicine growing up, and her love of UMMC.

Dr. Lillian Lien was awarded the Laureate Award for the Mississippi Chapter of American College of Physicians at the MS/AL ACP meeting in Meridian, MS.
Dr. Licy Yanes Cardozo has been named Director of Resident Research for the Internal Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Yanes Cardozo is an Associate Professor in both the Departments of Medicine and Molecular and Cell Biology. Dr. Yanes Cardozo has been awarded numerous accolades on campus, including the Department of Medicine Research Fellow Award, multiple Excellence in Research Awards, and the Stanley Chapman Young Investigator Award.
Dr. Jose (Pepe) Subauste is a Professor of Medicine and Fellowship Program Director in Endocrinology. He has been awarded numerous teaching awards over the years, including the Department of Medicine’s Teacher of the Year, and his “off the top of his head” lectures are regarded by residents and students as some of the best they’ve ever heard.
