Dr. Beverly “Gwen” Windham has been appointed to the Clinical Neuroscience and Neurodegeneration Study Section at the Center for Scientific Review by the National Institutes of Health.
Dr. Jasmine Kency has been named Medical Director of the Office of Patient Experience (OPE). Dr. Kency will work directly with hospital executive leaders, OPE staff, UMMC medical staff and other stakeholders to sustain and grow work that supports patient and family centered care at UMMC.

The recent graduation ceremonies for our medical students were certainly different this year. The usual cheering and other outbursts were muffled by masks worn at some graduation exercises, while sporadic loud yells (or shouts) of excitement pierced through the masks at other ceremonies. Some attendees screamed, clapped, and whistled –– despite instructions to maintain a solemn demeanor until the designated time.Â
Dr. Visnu Garla, Associate Professor in the Division of Endocrinology, co-authored a paper out this month titled “Dapagliflozin in patients with cardiometabolic risk factors hospitalised with COVID-19 (DARE-19): a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase 3 trial” in The Lancet Diabetes and Endocrinology.
