2023 Department of Medicine Scholarship Day was held on April 18th in the Student Union. The day began with a poster session featuring clinical vignettes, clinical research, and basic science research authored by both trainees and faculty.

Dr. Sanjana Kapoor, assistant professor in the Division of Nephrology, co-authored a paper last month in the American Journal of Kidney Diseases titled “Best Practice Alerts in Electronic Medical Records to Improve Pneumococcal Vaccination in CKD.”

The Department of Medicine and American College of Physicians hosted 2022 ACP Abstract Day on October 27th. The day included 111 posters and 6 oral presentations delivered by students, residents, and fellows from UMMC and statewide.

Dr. Zerelda Esquer Garrigos, assistant professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases, co-authored a Scientific Statement from the American Heart Association published August 31, 2022 in Circulation regarding Management of Infective Endocarditis (IE) in people who inject drugs.

Dr. Sarah Glover secures R01 grant to study immune responses to COVID-19
Dr. Sarah Glover, Professor and Division Director of Digestive Diseases, has been awarded a National Institutes of Health Research Project (R01) Grant to study the innate and adaptive immune responses of the nasal and gingival epithelium in SARS-CoV-2 infection and vaccination.
