Dr. Michael R. McMullan has been named Associate Dean for Student Affairs for the School of Medicine. Dr. McMullan is a cum laude graduate of the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where he also completed his internal medicine residency, chief residency, and cardiology fellowship training. He subsequently completed advanced training at Duke University in both adult congenital and valvular heart disease and in interventional cardiology.
Gabriel Hernandez, MD FACC recently published the article “Heart transplantation and ināhospital outcomes in adult congenital heart disease patients with Fontan: A decade nationwide analysis from 2004 to 2014” in the Journal of Cardiac Surgery. Dr. Hernandez tells us about the paper, its findings and potential impact on adult congenital heart disease patients.
Dr. Catherine Lowe, PGY-5 in Cardiology, was selected for the “Emerging Star” Award by UMMC’s Group on Women in Medicine and Science (GWIMS).

Trey Clark, MD, MPH, Assistant Professor in Cardiology, has been named Medical Director of Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) at UMMC’s Center for Telehealth. In this role, he will work with the telehealth team to revamp the RPM program.
Dr. Javed Butler, Chair of Medicine at UMMC, served as lead author on a White Paper published in Circulation that explored to what extent persuasive treatment effects on nonprimary end points can be used to support FDA regulatory claims and guideline recommendations.
