Demondes Haynes, MD, FCCP, Professor in the Division of Pulmonary & Critical Care and Associate Dean for Medical School Admissions at UMMC, delivered the keynote address at the American College of CHEST Physicians annual meeting in October.
Vikas Majithia, MD, MPH, Professor of Medicine and Division Director of Rheumatology, will be leaving UMMC next month. We appreciate his 20 years of service to UMMC. In light of his leaving, the following appointments have been made in the Department:
– Gailen Marshall to serve as interim Division Director of Rheumatology
– Jimmy Stewart appointed Vice Chair of Faculty Development for the Department of Medicine
– John Spurzem named Chair of the Department of Medicine Promotion and Tenure Committee

Get to know Dr. Rajesh Bhagat, faculty in Pulmonary and Critical Care. A seasoned educator and clinician, Dr. Bhagat is the Director of the MICU at the VA Hospital.
Dr. Jessie Harvey has been named Director of the Medical Intensive Care Unit. Dr. Harvey is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine. She completed medical school, internal medicine residency, and pulmonary and critical care fellowship at UMMC.

Dr. Andy Wilhelm has been named Division Director of the Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine Division. Dr. Wilhelm follows in the footsteps of Dr. John R. Spurzem, a leader in the department who has served as the Division Director of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine for 11 years.
